Turns out the reason why Mushroomy Kingdom exists is because of a pun. In Japan the Mushroom Kingdom stages from 64 and Melee with the retro designs are called "Ancient Kingdom", Mushroomy Kingdom is called "Ancient-like Kingdom" so instead of referring to the style of the design being ancient it refers to the kingdom itself being ancient and in ruins. All to say, we are stuck with this ugly stage (that personally makes me very uncomfortable just looking at it) all because of a pun that only works in Japanese, Chinese, and Korean

When I see these fight mechanics, I miss the melee version. Ultimate has more characters, effects, better features, and graphics but isn't as fast and fun as melee. I wish they could produce a better version with the same mechanics as melee.

Let's compare Smash 64 Link's recovery potential to Smash Ultimate Toon Link's recovery potential, because it's S A D. [Smash 64 Link] Up B (Midair): Like 1 inch of vertical movement, 1 inch of horizontal movement, falls like a bowling ball, boring looking, missed potential, Link's voiceline is kinda cool i guess. Double Jump: disappointing, to say the least. Yeah that's it- [Smash Ultimate Toon Link] Up B (Midair): (Surprisingly) great vertical movement, fairly good horizontal movement, looks cool, good hitbox, multihit, great edgeguard move, floaty. Zair: Tether recovery with range that makes me question this game's balancing, throwing a bomb/boomerang towards the ledge turns you around, so you can use Zair recovery pretty reliably. Double Jump: Floaty as heck and good horizontal and/or vertical movement. Wall Jump: it's wall jump. that's enough to say how good it is. I'm a little lazy so find the rest yourself. Anyways this comparison is wild.

*Honorable mention:* Post-Brawl Olimar. Basically like ROB and Villager, the pair of winged pikmin can save even when you're seconds away from hitting the blast zone and you can fly for quite a long time, unless you spam it a lot and the pikmin get tired. Also there's the fact that the pikmin directly affect the weight (white the lightest ans purple the heaviest), but you can just throw them away and then recover safely.
